A commentary on the first letter of Peter - by Henri Rossier
Exposition of the First Letter of Peter
Peter writes this letter to Christians who came from Judaism. The content of the letter is attuned to Jews who knew the Word of God and the Messiah expectation contained therein. These Jews were strangers in two ways: as Jews in relation to the nations, but now also as Christians in relation to their own people. Peter shows that a Christian as a pilgrim on earth in the midst of this world is also a stranger and gives many instructions for the following of the Christian.
The teaching of this letter is based on a living hope through the resurrection of Christ, as opposed to the expectation of the Jews on earth. In short, the letter could be described as a gracious introduction of the faithful to the meaning and reality of their spiritual privileges. The spiritual and moral responsibility of the faithful is presented in all possible areas of life.
In this commentary, H. Rossier addresses all five chapters of this letter verse by verse. A good help to understand this letter better.
